ImageWhile many forms of telephone tapping must be done by law enforcement agencies due to laws, there are ways in which a conversation can be listened to legally.  In this case, the tapping is done with a type of bug whereby you would be able to listen to one side of a conversation.  While this helps in some cases, not being able to hear or record both sides can be challenging.  However, you will also find options for telephone tapping where both sides of a conversation can be heard.

Telephone tapping comes in a number of options to include soft taps, hard taps, and advanced cell phone taps, all that would let you hear conversations on both ends.  With technology where it is today, you can accomplish this without the bugging device even being noticed.  In other words, you can hear information while the person or persons talking have no idea.  Below is a breakdown of these three options.

Soft Taps

With this option of telephone tapping, the actual phone company would use special software on their end.  The result is being able to hear information via a digital network, which can be done by having permission to listen or simply hacking into the call.  Typically, phone companies now use digital technology, even on landline phones.  Therefore, the person listening to the conversation would need to know the line involved with the conversation.  Telephone tapping of this kind is not difficult and the individuals in the conversation would have no idea they are being listened to.

Hard Taps

In this case, telephone tapping involves the phone line being manipulated.  For a hard tap to occur, a second line is linked to the phone’s primary line.  From there, the two are connected but at a different location.  The result is the person doing the listening can hear the conversation.  For serious cases of telephone tapping, this is a great option in that detection is near impossible.

Since the telephone tapping is done in a hard wired fashion and at a location other than where the phone conversation is occurring, someone trying to find the bug would not be successful.  That means using software or other technology to locate a bugging device would simply not work in this instance.

Cell Phone Taps

Today, there are some incredible technological options whereby a person can actually dial a special number that would then allow listening to happen.  The person or persons being listened to would probably not even know they were being listened to, making this an excellent option for eavesdropping.

The bottom line is that listening to a phone conversation, whether done by law enforcement agencies, professional private investigators, or individuals is relatively easy.  You might also consider telephone tapping in the form of a tape recorder, which is designed to use some type of memory for recording conversations.

However, before you run out to purchase a phone recorder for telephone tapping, you want to determine the way in which the device would be used, the length of the conversations, how the device would connect to the phone, and most importantly, the laws of using such telephone tapping devices.  Obviously, there are risks associated with this action, some that are against the law.

The interesting thing is that telephone tapping has evolved over the years.  For instance, there are now computer-based interception devices to consider.  With this, the conversation of voice can be captured, along with SMS messages.  Then, the information can actually be organized in a database, being stored for future use.  Best of all, this type of telephone tapping is very easy to do and the device affordable.

Before you do anything with telephone tapping, you need to do some research to determine the laws for city, state, and federal governments.  Many times, information from a phone conversation is being collected to be used against someone.  For instance, a couple going through a nasty divorce that has significant financial things to split might use telephone tapping as a means of protection.  However, if the information gathered cannot even be used in a court of law, then it would not benefit much.

If you cannot find the information you need about telephone tapping, you can always contact an attorney to discuss your particular situation.  It may be that you can listen to a conversation or that the attorney feels you would do best by hiring a professional who has the legal right to do this.
