The Various Types of Listening Devices

ImageFor whatever reason, many people around the country have the need for some type of listening device.  This might be to check the fidelity of a spouse, confirm the honesty of a business partner, keep a close eye over the care of children in the home, and so on.  Regardless, it is important that you choose the right type of listening device based on your specific needs.

There are some listening devices that can be placed in the home covertly.  Typically, these small “spy bugs” can be fitted into plants, clocks, radios, etc.  However, there are actual devices that look like everyday items, which can blend perfectly in with existing items so the device is never detected.  The other option for listening devices is by having something on your person.

Although there is the option of hiring a professional to do the surveillance for you, you too can listen into conversations without having any experience.  The challenges include choosing the right type of device so you get the conversation loud and clear, as well as following the laws for the state in which you live.

Radio frequency is by far the most popular type of listening device, which can easily be placed wherever you want.  In addition to being hidden in the phone itself, these small pieces of equipment can also be strategically placed.  If this type of listening device is on or in the phone, then both sides of a conversation can be heard.  However, you could also choose to have the device placed in a hat, cigarette lighter, scarf, writing pen, and so on.

The way this works is that the radio frequency transmits the conversation to a certain location where it can then be heard.  In fact, using a standard FM radio would work as the receiver in many cases.  Because this is such an affordable and efficient solution for listening to a conversation many people will start here when shopping for listening devices.

Additionally, there are listening devices that are designed to connect directly to the phone line but without sending out any kind of radio signal.  The problem is that while they work, detection is much harder.  For this, you might consider some kind of special software for the computer that can tap into conversations taking place on the phone.  However, if you were to hire a professional investigator, he or she would likely consider an actual wiretap.

While these two options work, one of the most popular and effective of all listening devices is with the cell phone.  There are actual phones sold that are designed with a bug so conversations within a room or specific area, as well as conversations on the cell phone are heard.  This common device is an excellent solution because everyone has a cell phone so it is never thought of as being a listening device.

The great thing about cell phones as listening devices is that look just like an ordinary cell phone.  While the functionality of a common cell phone is not there, they appear normal.  Depending on the type of cell phone listening equipment you choose, some will be designed to act as a scanner.  This means the phone would be held to the ear, with you pretending to be on a call, but signals are intercepted and you can hear conversations.

Some of the other listening devices in the form of “cell phones” on the market today work more like a traditional spy bug.  With this, you would have to place the phone in a room so the conversations and sounds in the room could be captured.  Then, there are even spy cell phones that will let you hear a two-way conversation.  For this, the phone bug is plugged into the phone jack and you can then record the conversation to be listened to at a later time.

While all of these options for phone listening devices work well, the best is using one that is a functional cell phone but designed so the person you want to listen to can make a call and you can hear.  Best of all, even if the party is not on the phone, the bug would capture room conversation and noise so you can still hear what all is going on.  Obviously, the world of listening devices has changed dramatically, making it much easier to find out information, good or bad, that you need.
